Alpacas are timid and curious.
Black Gold a.k.a. alpaca poop, is amazing fertilizer.
There are two breeds of alpacas: Huacaya & Suri. Huacaya, most common alpaca, has dense fluffy fleece. The Suri , which is only 10% of the population, has long silky locks.
Alpaca fleece is one of the finest in the world, 4-6x warmer than wool, soft as cashmere, hypoallergenic, breathable and moisture resistant.
Alpacas are members of the camelid family, which includes camels, llamas, vicunas and guanacos.
Alpacas originated in the Andes Mountains. of Peru, Chile and Bolivia, South America, around 5,000 years ago.
They are strong herd animals and need other alpacas as companions.
Alpacas weight 160-170 lbs. and live about 20 years.
Alpacas need to be sheared every Spring to keep them cool in the Summer.
